Anthropomorphic statue

Title: Anthropomorphic Statue
Material: Carved Wood
Origin: Mali, West Africa, Dogon Culture
Date: 20th Century
Dimensions: H. 164 x 10 x 12 cm
Description: The sculpture depicts a highly stylized anthropomorphic male figure, characterized by extreme verticality. The body appears reduced to the essential: very long, slender legs support an elongated torso, while the arms, held close to the body, accentuate the impression of rigidity and monumentality. The face, with its pronounced features, is surmounted by a crest reminiscent of typical Dogon hairstyles or traditional helmets. The entire formal balance plays on the exaggeration of verticality, making the figure almost abstract, more symbolic than naturalistic representation.
