Mohamed Fquih Regragui nasce nel 1948 a Rabat, in un Marocco che, nel secondo dopoguerra, è attraversato da profondi cambiamenti politici, sociali e culturali.

His training and artistic research developed within this climate of transformation, in which the young Moroccan art scene was called upon to redefine its languages ​​and roots after independence. From the outset, Fquih Regragui stood out for his introspective and rigorous painting, oriented toward abstraction and symbolism.

After studying art in Morocco, he continued his education in Europe, where he came into contact with modern and contemporary art movements. This international exchange, however, did not lead him to mimetic adherence to Western models, but rather reinforced his need to develop a personal language capable of engaging with the cultural and spiritual memory of the Moroccan world. His work emerges precisely from this tension between openness and rootedness, between formal research and reflection on identity.

Mohamed Fquih Regragui’s painting is characterized by dense surfaces, traversed by signs, symbols, and essential forms. Abstraction is never purely formal: each element seems to allude to an interior dimension, an invisible order that evokes spirituality, silence, and contemplation. The compositions often appear balanced and thoughtful, as if the pictorial gesture were the result of a slow, thoughtful process rather than an immediate impulse.

Signs play a central role in his research. Lines, incisions, and repeated shapes evoke imaginary alphabets, archaic scripts, or symbolic maps. References to calligraphy and Arab-Islamic visual traditions are present, but always transfigured: these are not direct quotations, but rather a poetic reworking of the sign as a vehicle of meaning. In this way, painting becomes a space for meditation, where the visible and the invisible meet.

Color is also used with restraint and awareness. The hues, often deep and earthy, help create intimate, sometimes austere atmospheres that invite slow contemplation. The painted surfaces seem to hold time, as if each layer of color holds a trace of memory. The work is never immediate, but demands attention and attentiveness from the viewer.

Over the course of his career, Fquih Regragui has exhibited in numerous national and international contexts, actively participating in the construction of a conscious and autonomous Moroccan art scene. While maintaining a discreet stance, detached from trends, his work has been recognized for its coherence and depth, establishing a continuity with those artists who have chosen abstraction as a space for existential and cultural interrogation.

Mohamed Fquih Regragui is now recognized as a significant figure in Moroccan modern and contemporary art. His work demonstrates a vision of art as a practice of knowledge, in which sign and color become tools for exploring the relationship between the individual, memory, and spirituality. Through silent yet intense painting, the artist continues to offer a space for reflection that transcends time and geographical affiliations, confirming the universal value of his research.
