Function: This type of object is commonly associated with initiation or passage ceremonies, the representation of ancestors or mythical figures, or ritual mediation roles (mask dances). In the case of the Chokwe and related populations, cowries are often symbols of fertility, prosperity, and prestige, while scars and hair indicate belonging and status.
